Charlie Kirk Murder: US Authorities Announce Arrest of Suspect Named Tyler Robinson

The suspect in the killing of US activist Charlie Kirk has been named as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson.
US authorities announced the arrest of Robinson during a press briefing on September 12.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox began his press conference saying, "we got him."
Cox said a family member of Robinson reached out to a family friend, who then contacted a Sheriff with information that Robinson had confessed or implied he had committed the incident.
He also noted that there no indication so far that there would be further arrests.
"We do not have information at this time that would lead to additional arrests, but the investigation is ongoing."
"There is one person responsible for what happened here and that person is now in custody and will be charged soon and will be held accountable."

Kirk’s killing drew bipartisan condemnation of the rise in political violence in the US.
How was Charlie Kirk killed?
Kirk, aged 31, was speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem on September 10 as part of a tour when he was shot.
He was answering a question on gun violence when he was shot by a gunman from the roof of the Losee Center, a building overlooking Kirk's location.
After the shot rang out, the BBC reported that a figure dressed in black was seen running across the roof of the building from where the shot was fired and jumping to the grass below, before walking towards a nearby road and a cluster of trees.
On the evening of September 11, Kirk’s casket had arrived in his home state of Arizona aboard Air Force Two accompanied by US Vice President JD Vance.
Who was Charlie Kirk?
Kirk was one of the most high-profile right-wing activists and media personalities in the US.
He was also an ally of Trump and regularly visited the White House.
He is the co-founder Turning Point USA (TPUSA), a student organisation that aims to spread conservative ideals at liberal-leaning US colleges.
Kirk was known as known for holding open-air debates on campuses across the country.
He is also known as a divisive figure that promoted controversial and conspiratorial beliefs such as the false claim that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump.
