Speaking to Joy News in Accra, some members of the constituency appealed to Nana Akufo-Addo to reduce the harsh sentence or even pardon him.

“We are very sad by what has happened because Pele is not only our former MP but he is also the father of the constituency. We are appealing to His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo, they should put politics aside and help Abuga Pele to come out,” one of the aggrieved residents told Joy News.

The former National Democratic Congress MP was handed over a 6-year sentence by an Accra High court on Friday, after he was convicted for willfully causing financial loss to the state.

The former parliamentarian who was convicted alongside businessman Philip Assibit, was found guilty of putting in false claims that resulted to the loss of more than GH¢4 million Ghana cedis.

Meanwhile, a former Roads and Highways Minister, Inusah Fuseini, has dismissed assertions that former GYEEDA boss was a mere victim of circumstances.

Mr. Fuseini said on Joy FM's Newsfile show Saturday that, Abuga Pele could have avoided the financial loss if he had done some due diligence.
