Akufo-Addo, Bawumia attend 99th birthday celebrations for Chief Imam
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his vice, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on Monday, April 23, attended a party for National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu.
The party was to mark the National Chief Imam's 99th birthday.
President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia, who visited the Chief Imam's residence, offered prayers for him on the special occasion.
Born 191 at Old Fadama, a suburb of Accra, Sheikh Sharabutu is a Hausa man with roots to the northern parts of Nigeria.

He assumed his current position in 1988 after the then Chief Imam. Mukthar Abbas retired after a protracted illness.
Though Chief Sharabutu inherited a Muslim community with many feuding factions, he has been able to ensure relative peace among the factions.
He is often credited for bringing charisma, leadership, respect and drive, that have never been known to the position.

Sheikh Sharubutu, a member of the National Peace Council is revered across Ghana and beyond.
He has received several awards for the role he plays in ensuring peaceful co-existence between Muslims, Christians, and other religious bodies as well as political groups in the country.
