Makeup forms part of a global multi-billionaire dollar beauty and fashion industry. For many women across the world, makeup helps to add an extra shine to their beauty, YEN.com.gh can report.

In Africa, the makeup industry is a vibrant one. Many talented makeup artists have for many years helped women to look glamorous, especially for important occasions like weddings, engagements, graduations, and naming ceremonies.

Some of the works exhibited by Ghanaian and Nigerian makeup artists, especially, have fascinated and held many people spellbound.

While many view makeup as a positive thing that helps to shine a light on women's beauty, some critics, especially men, have condemned it.

Such critics say the level of facial transformation of some women after their makeup sessions is unrealistic and deceptive.

A Facebook post on makeup sighted by YEN.com.gh left some social media users divided.

Some men who commented on the post said makeup works were intended to deceive men.

"Men are not worried about what you are covering with your make up. We are just a little concerned about the fact that you are putting it on to deceive," a Facebook user who commented on the post said.

"And somebody will tell me Kwasi to propose to a lady in makeups I meet on the street? Tweaakae," another Facebook user, Kwasi Paintsil, said.

Some women also weighed in, saying that makeups were unnecessary, since they could not be maintained forever.

"I don't have a problem with make-up. But can you make up everyday for the rest of your life? For how long are you going cover your blemishes with it? Instead, find a solution to cure those blemishes," a Facebook user, Efya Sefaa, stated.
