Pastor’s killer to be subjected to a mental examination

- Francis Nabegmado, the man suspected of killing his uncle, Rev. Dr. David Nabegmado, may undergo medical examination

- According to a top police official, DSP Joseph Benefo Darkwah, the test will help determine the suspect's state of mind

- Nabegmado was apprehended after he killed the man of God who was preparing to preach a sermon in Tema on Sunday

The suspect in the case of the murder of the head pastor of the Assemblies of God church at Tema, Community Four, Rev. Dr. David Nabegmado, is likely to be subjected to a mental examination.

The suspect, 31-year-old Francis Nabegmado, was apprehended when he attempted to escape after killing the man of God in his inner office, where he was preparing to deliver a sermon.

According to the public relations officer of the Tema Regional Police Command, DSP Joseph Benefo Darkwah, the examination will aid in determining the suspect’s state of mind.

He added that even though he does not wish to go ahead of the judgement, Francis is in police custody, and such a test will help the case when he is arraigned before a court.

The suspect, had in his possession at the time of his arrest, alcohol, turpentine, matches, a knife and a machete.

Defending his actions, he claimed that the deceased was not a true man of God.

Francis went on to say that his late uncle sacrificed all the family and has destroyed everybody, so he had to be killed.

He added that the pastor had idols in the house for protection, and performed about two or three sacrifices a year.

According to him, he had planned to burn the alleged deity of Rev Nabegmado after killing him in his office at the church premises on Sunday, December 30, 2018.

DSP Benefo Darkwah however stated that investigations are underway into the matter while statements from witnesses have already been taken.

He also noted that police personnel have been dispatched to the house of the deceased, as well as the church premises to ensure maximum security.
