Germany Names 3 Documents Needed for Its Fast-Track Recruitment Process

  • Germany's fast-track recruitment scheme offers foreign skilled workers a quicker route to employment
  • The procedure was introduced partly because high demand for German visas has made embassy appointment slots a serious bottleneck
  • Employers must take specific steps to initiate the process on behalf of their prospective hires before an earlier visa appointment can be granted

Germany has identified three documents that foreign skilled workers and their prospective employers must submit to qualify for the country's fast-track recruitment procedure, a scheme designed to reduce delays between a job offer and an employee's first working day.

The requirements are outlined on Germany's official Make it in Germany portal, which details the procedure under Section 81a of the Residence Act, known as AufenthG.

What the fast-track procedure requires

The process begins with the employer obtaining a power of attorney from the prospective hire.

This legal document allows the employer to act on the skilled worker's behalf throughout the application process and serves as the foundation for everything that follows.

A copy of the foreign worker's passport must be submitted alongside the power of attorney to confirm identity and nationality.

The third requirement is proof of professional qualifications, a particularly significant document given that Germany's immigration framework requires foreign credentials to be assessed for equivalence with German educational standards before a work visa can be issued.

The relevant foreigners authority formally initiates this recognition procedure, and competent offices are expected to deliver a decision within two months of receiving a complete application.

How the fast-track timeline works

The scheme was introduced in part because demand for German visas has grown sharply in several countries, making standard embassy appointment slots a significant obstacle for applicants.

Under the fast-track procedure, eligible skilled workers whose employers have initiated the process receive an earlier appointment date at the German mission abroad.

Once that appointment takes place, a decision on the visa application is issued within three weeks, considerably faster than the standard route.

It is important to note that completing the fast-track process does not guarantee visa approval.
