- Assin Central's MP, Kennedy Agyapong, has been referred to Parliament's privileges committee
- This relates to comments he made prior to the death of Ahmed Hussein-Suale, an investigative journalist
- Ahmed was killed on Wednesday, January 16, 2019
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has been referred to the privileges committee of Parliament by the speaker, Professor Aaron Michael Ocquaye.
According to a report by Citinewsroom.com, the minority chief whip, Muntaka Mubarak, called on the speaker to refer the MP to the committee for comments made regarding the slain Tiger Eye investigator, Ahmed Suale, months before his death.
The majority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, reportedly failed to object to the call for the matter to be referred to the committee.
Armed men killed Ahmed on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Madina, a suburb of Accra.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) has began interrogating possible suspects such as Agyapong and former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president, Kwesi Nyantakyi.
They have therefore placed a GHC15,000 bounty on the heads of the murderers of the investigative journalist.
Agyapong has however denied his involvement in Ahmed’s death, and explained that he gains nothing from killing him.
The minority in Parliament had reportedly called on the police to swiftly arrest and begin the prosecution of Agyapong, for his alleged complicity in the murder.
They argued that their fellow MP knowingly or unknowingly aided in the killing of the journalist.
