6 Ghanaian celebs and their social and humanitarian projects

Ghanaians generally admire celebrities for a myriad of reasons, chief amongst them being a desire to be like them.

The celebrities are often engaged in a number of projects outside their main professions, and these may not be as prominent.

YEN.com.gh has sampled six Ghanaian celebrities and the projects they are spearheading to bring change into society:

All over the world, celebrities use their goodwill to help champion or drive an ideology. One of such means is to set up foundations, to cater for the need of society’s underprivileged.

1. Yvonne Nelson Foundation (Yvonne Nelson):

Yvonne Nelson’s foundation was set up mainly to create awareness about the Glaucoma disease. She had a group of musicians and actors feature in a promotional video to sensitize the public on the disease.

2. Micheal Essien Foundation (Micheal Essien):

The MEF has for the past three years been raising money for charity. It donated GHC 8,000 cedis to four local charities. He earlier launched the Micheal Essien ‘Youth Vocation’ in Awutu (his hometown), where 5 young adults were supported financially to learn a trade of their choice.

3. McBrown Family Foundation (Nana Ama McBrown):

This foundation engages in humanitarian projects. It currently caters for 6 children from the Kumasi Children’s Home.

4. John Dumelo Foundation (John Dumelo):

The foundation provides educational materials to needy schools. Students also get to enjoy scholarship packages.

5. Nadia Buari Foundation (Nadia Buari):

The foundation’s aim is to give street children and the less privileged, access to quality education.

6. Juliet Ibrahim Foundation (Juliet Ibrahim):

The foundation was set up to among other things, raise funds to support people with kidney diseases. It intends to build a state of the art kidney center.
