There are a lot of single-gender Senior High Schools (SHS) in Ghana but it is understandable that all-boy schools tend to be the more popular ones in Ghana.

All-boy schools in Ghana have a tradition going back to times before the independence of Ghana. The Mfantsipim School for instance, is over 140 years old.

The ranking of the pedigree of all-boy schools however, depend on more than how old they are. Other things such as records in nationally recognised quiz and sports competitions are also factored.

1. Presbyterian Boys' School

PRESEC is the six-time winner of the National Science and Maths Quiz. It is also a consistent producer of notable alumni excelling in various fields.

2. Mfantsipim School

Another of the oldest schools in Ghana, Mfantsipim is probably the school with the most notable alumni apart from Achimota School, a mixed school. The school is still an intellectual powerhouse.

3. Prempeh College

Prempeh College is the product of Asante royal efforts along with the Methodist Church, Ghana. The discipline exhibited by students of Prempeh is quite legendary.

4. Adisadel College

Adisadel is a school with a rich history as well as a beautiful present. The variety of their excellence is what is most noted about Adisadel.

5. St. Augustine's College

One of the oldest schools in Ghana, St. Augustine's College has carried over 100 years of excellence into modern times. Augusco is still a highly-rated school.

6. Opoku Ware Senior High School

Opoku Ware is one of those traditional schools that is heavily backed beyond normal governmental support. The success of their students in intellectual contests reflect this support.

7. Accra Academy

Accra Academy gets its shine from its production of regional sports competition winners. It also has good standing in intellectual contests.

8. St. Peter's Boys' Senior High School

St. Peter's are the unchallenged masters from the Eastern region. Pope John's, their closes rivals are actually no competitors even on a regional scale.

9. St. James Seminary Senior High

At two points in time, St. James Seminary was the highest scoring school in the West African Senior Secondary School Examination (WASSCE) in Ghana. They have not looked back since then.

10. Bishop Herman Boys' Senior High School

Ordinarily the best school in the Volta region, Bishop Herman consistently scores high marks on the passage of their students into the university.
