Ghana midfielder Anthony Annan has been accused by his wife, Gifty Annan, of neglecting his duties as a parent and a husband.
According to Mrs Annan, though she has four kids with the former Schalke midfielder, the player has neglected them and was staying with another woman with whom she has two other children.
“Anthony Annan performed my traditional marriage when I got pregnant for him. He was then playing for Accra Hearts of Oak. We proceeded to marry under ordinance when he was leaving to play IK Start in Norway," the disturbed wife said.
Anthony Annan's wife made the accusation in an interview on Happy FM according to a report sighted by YEN.com.gh on Ghanasoccernet.com.
Explaining the circumstances that led to the current state of affairs, Mrs Annan revealed that the midfielder once accused her of infidelity and indicated his intention for divorce her but the process needed to be done in order to enforce the divorce has not been started by the player.
“The last time me or the kids set eyes on Anthony Annan was two years ago when he came to perform the naming ceremony of our last child. He accused me of infidelity and said he was no longer interested in the marriage.
"As at now, I do not know if I am still married to him because my family never accepted his request for a divorce and we have also not legally divorced since we married under ordinance marriage,” Mrs Annan explained.
Answering a question of whether Annan caters for the kids or not, she said: “he occasionally sends some money for the kids but it’s not enough to cater for all their needs.”
Anthony Annan's marital trouble comes at a time when Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan is in court to get his marriage annulled.
Gyan's suit which had sort to question the paternity of his three kids with Gifty Gyan has, however, suffered a big blow as a DNA test has proven him to the father.
In recent times, other footballers like John Paintsil and John Mensah have all had to deal with marital troubles which ended in divorce.
Anthony Annan who currently plays for Israeli side Beitar Jerusalem started his professional career with Hasaacas in 2003 before moving to Accra Hearts of Oak in 2007.
The 32-year-old got a move to Europe after signing for IK Start in Norway and has played in Germany for Schalke 04 and 1860 Munich and Spain for Osasuna.
