President Nana Akufo-Addo has been recently involved in a minor scandal as a video popped up from the camp of the opposition NDC.

The video had Akufo-Addo taking an amount of money wrapped in a brown envelope from a lady and a man in the video.

Information propagated alongside the video by the NDC claimed that Akufo-Addo was taking bribe in order not to sack one Alhaji Abbas Awolu from his position in government.

But it later turned out that the video was fake and had been doctored from a 2016 encounter between Akufo-Addo and a party, Hajia Fawzia Karim.

Hajia Fawzia (the lady in the video) has popped up with an explanation as to what really happened.

In an interview with Asaase Radio which's video has been sighted by YEN.com.gh, Hajia Fawzia clarified that her encounter wit Akufo-Addo happened a few months to the 2016 elections and not in 2020 as being speculated.

She explained that she went to Akufo-Addo's house day to present one thousand t-shirts and GHC40,000 as a donation to the then-candidate Akufo-Addo's campaign.

According to Hajia Fawzia, she had been supporting the party at the grassroots level prior to the visit to Akufo-Addo.

An associate who saw her efforts arranged for her to meet Madam Ama Busia, one of the members of the NPP's council of elders, in order her to be recognised.

Madam Busia who was not feeling well at the time and thus connected them with Dr Baffour Adjei Bawuah, Ghana's current Ambassador to the US, who led them to Akufo-Addo.

It was Dr Bawuah who actually handed over the money to Akufo-Addo on behalf of Hajia Fawzia while Salis Salis Yakubu Atsuluho of the Salis Newspaper, the man who first took her to Madam Busia spoke of their mission.

“…the video was before the 2016 elections. I had about 1000 t-shirts which had the pictures of the then-presidential candidate and his vice and added an amount of GH¢40,000 to support Nana. I went there as a party supporter,” Hajia Fawzia explained in the interview.

In her statements, Hajia Fawzia suspected the Yakubu guy to have given out the video which has in turn been used to frame the bribery story.
