President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has indicated that the University for Development Studies would be named after Rawlings.
While delivering his tribute at the state funeral for late former president Jerry John Rawlings, Akufo-Addo noted that the former head of state deserved to be honoured.
In line with this, Akufo-Addo indicated that plans are underway to rename the University of Development Studies to the Jerry John Rawlings University for Development Studies, Tamale.
According to Akufo-Addo, this move was in the right direction because of the efforts made by late Jerry Rawlings in championing the cause of higher education in the country.
While delivering his tribute, President Akufo-Addo eulogised the late former president for his diverse roles in the promotion of governance, democracy and being the first child of Ghana's fourth republic.
President Akufo-Addo added that Rawlings's legacies as both a military and democratic leader is going to be forever etched in the history books of the nation.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the last daughter of late former president Jerry John Rawlings and Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, Amina, has been spotted crying at her dad's funeral.
In a video sighted by YEN.com.gh on Instagram, Amina Rawlings was tasked to read Nana Konadu's tribute to her husband on the final day of the state funeral.
While eulogizing her father and reminiscing on the special moments shared between her parents on her mum's behalf, Amina could not help but break down in tears.
Also, quite an emotional video of former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings crying at the state funeral of her late husband former president Jerry John Rawlings has popped up.
In the video sighted by YEN.com.gh, Mrs Rawlings was walking alongside her children Zanetor and Kimathi Rawlings when she suddenly stopped and tears started rolling down her cheeks.
