The party in a letter signed by its General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and sighted by YEN.com.gh provided the commission an account number in which to refund the money.

Ghana’s electoral laws require the EC to refund filing fees to candidates who attain certain thresholds after polls.

In other news, the lead counsel for John Dramani Mahama in the ongoing election petition trial, Tsatsu Tsikata said former President Kufuor was determined to jail him during his administration.

Tsikata who was the former Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Chief Executive was sentenced by the Accra Fast Track High Court in June 2008 to five years imprisonment for wilfully causing financial loss to the State.

Speaking on the KSM show on Pan African TV, Tsikata said he became the target of the Kufuor administration because of his closeness with the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.

He said the Kufuor administration was bent on erasing the legacies of Rawlings in the oil and gas industry.

“I could see by the beginning of 2001, the determination, by hook or crook to find something against me. That is what led to all these interesting cases against me,” he said.

The disclosures by Tsikata have generated massive reactions on social media and YEN.com.gh compiled a few.

Senior Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata toiled for GNPC to be where it is today. His sole contribution to GNPC has raked in huge income for this country.
Today, one of his key detractors is steering the affairs of this nation. He finds the place lucrative enough to pack with friends.
