2 reported dead, 30 others injured after crash on Kintampo-Tamale highway

The Kintampo-Tamale road has become quite popular for for the incessant road crashes that have plagued that stretch for sometime now.

Another accident has occurred on that stretch, with two people losing their lives and thirty others sustaining various degrees of injuries.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 after the front tyre of a tractor detached, causing it to crash with a commercial bus.

The incident occurred near the Soronoase Toll Booth, at around 5 pm yesterday.

The Sprinter bus was heading to Sunyani from Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Some eyewitnesses and passengers said the front left tyre of the tractor detached and in an attempt to save himself and other road users, the driver of the tractor ended up colliding with the bus.

“... the tyre of the tractor ahead of us removed and in an attempt by the bus driver to avoid colliding with the tyre, tried to manoeuvre the bus away but was unsuccessful,” an eye witness said.

The road accidents being recorded these past weeks have been linked to either drunk driving, tired driving, carelessness, overspeeding as well as overtaking on the part of the drivers.

This recent one is not all new as there have been other accidents recorded as a result of the front tyres detaching itself.

Meanwhile, 16 people lost their lives in an accident at Akyem Asafo on the Accra-Kumasi highway.

It is reported that several others have sustained various degrees of injuries. The fatality recorded was from both buses as 13 males and 3 females died on the spot.

The accident occurred around 1:30am on Friday, February 26, after two KIA grand buses collided head-on.

In other news, YEN.com.gh earlier reported that three foreigners died in a fatal accident.

The unfortunate incident occurred on the Cape Coast - Winneba Highway at Gomoa Okyereko in the Central region.

An eyewitness said the three foreigners, a man, and two women were aboard a Toyota Prado with registration GN 3966-17.

The Prado reportedly collided with a long truck at Okyereko Junction whiles trying to overtake a vehicle ahead of it. Their bodies have been deposited at the morgue.
