Historic Ghanaian heroine, Yaa Asantewaa's famous picture of her holding a gun has been claimed to be of an American Arts student who was posing as the Ghanaian icon.
In a detailed report that was sighted by YEN.com.gh on the Twitter handle of The Asante Nation, it was admitted that the photo of the model in a bulletproof war jacket got many people thinking that it is the real picture of Yaa Asantewaa.

Instead, a true portrait of the famous historic Ghanaian warrior was shared, showing that she looked somewhat different from what has been believed by many as the real Yaa Asantewaa.

In 1896, the British exiled her grandson, Nana Kofi Afrane, chief of Ejisu as well as the King of Asante (Prempeh I) to Seychelles.
This was Britain’s way of dealing with African kings in the past, as was the case with the Kingdom of Benin with the capture and exile of Oba.
During this time and thereafter, Yaa Asantewaa became popular and famous for leading the Ashanti rebellion to defend the Golden Stool against British colonial rule.

In an interview with TV3 Ghana sighted by YEN.com.gh, Angelina Akua Nana Oduro indicated that her wish is to meet the president and the minister of tourism at least.
"It is my face that is out there but I have never received any recognition for it" she explained.
