Agyapong was suspended by the disciplinary committee of the party in the lead-up to the 2016 general elections over acts the party deemed inimical to its electoral fortunes.

He was the party’s General Secretary when he was suspended alongside the party’s then National Chairman, Paul Afoko and Sammy Crabbe.

According to a report sighted on Dailymailgh.com, the governing party decided to reinstall the membership of its former General Secretary following President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s passionate intervention.

President Akufo-Addo per the report fervently appealed for the reinstallation of Agyapong during the governing party’s national executive council meeting on Monday, May 10, 2021.

Agyapong wrote to the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) three months earlier, pleading for mercy.

In the run-up to the 2020 general elections, Agyapong was instrumental in selling the message of the president and the party.

He was part of the president’s entourage during his tour of all the 16 regions of Ghana, addressing several rallies in the process.

In other NPP news, controversial pastor, Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah, said the NPP will lose the 2024 elections if the party presents a non-Christian presidential candidate.

In effect, the head pastor of the Glorious Word and Power Ministry believes the NPP will be booted out of the Jubilee House with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer.

The vice president is the only prominent non-Christian in the elephant fraternity being widely tipped to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the NPP’s presidential candidate in the 2024 elections.

Owusu Bempah, however, has other ideas, reportedly disclosing during a sermon in his Church as per Peace FM that the NPP could lose the elections should a non-Christian lead it into the 2024 elections.

Still, on the NPP, maverick Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, accused a distant relative of former President John Agyekum Kufuor of fraud.

According to him, the gentleman who goes by the name Kufuor is using the former president’s name to dupe, seize and grab lands belonging to innocent Ghanaians and the state in Cantonment.

"A distant relative of former President Kufuor is defrauding people, seizing their lands in Cantonment,” the maverick lawmaker stated on his Net2 television on Monday, May 10.

The Assin Central lawmaker further alleged that bigshots in the governing New Patriotic Party are using soldiers to confiscate or steal peoples’ lands from them.
