Ghanaian singer, Gyakie has expressed her pleasant surprise at being introduced by African music legend, Angelique Kidjo prior to her MTV Base YouTube African Day Concert performance.
As YEN.com.gh reported on Monday, May 25, 2021, the Forever crooner was the only Ghanaian artiste to perform at the Idris Elba-hosted virtual event which was streamed to a global audience on YouTube and broadcast across MTV channels.
"It is my honour to introduce you to a young woman from Ghana whose talents and infectious energy is undeniable," said Kidjo, the Grammy-winning music legend.
"She has already captured the continent's heart with her hit track forever, and we know she is destined to represent Ghana and Africa globally in the months and years to come. Please help me welcome to the Africa Day stage, Gyakie."
An excited Gyakie posted a video of the introduction online with the caption: "What a time to be alive."
On May 20, 2021, YEN.com.gh reported that Gyakie had made Ghana proud with another highlight on an international platform.
Youtube, the American video-sharing company has made her the face of Africa's Next Wave, a playlist as part of activities to celebrate Africa Month.
On April 30, 2021, YEN.com.gh reported that Gyakie had made history with a feature on a new initiative by the world's biggest streaming service, Spotify.
She is the only African artiste who is a part of the inaugural class of EQUAL, an initiative by the international music company. The program seeks to push the music of female artistes around the world.
In a press release acknowledging the recognition, the singer expressed how honoured she was to be featured on the platform.
“I am deeply honoured to be the first African woman to partner with Spotify for EQUAL. This is huge for so many women across the continent and the entire globe. I don’t take this lightly at all," she said.
Earlier in the same month, she made an impressive showing on Billboard's Top Triller global Chart. The remix of her song Forever which features Nigerian artiste, Omah Lay, dominated the airwaves and charted at number three ahead of a song by Jennifer Lopez and just behind a song by Cardi B.
