5 Ghanaian celebrities battling with chronic illnesses

Although celebrities are held in high esteem and sometimes placed on a pedestal close to immortality, fans are sometimes given a rude awakening to the fact that celebrities too, are human and face similar mortal lows just like anyone else.

In recent times, a lot of reports have been received about various popular personalities on the Ghanaian scene being taken ill, which most of the time leaves the public sad.

Unfortunately, some celebrities lost the battle to some of the diseases they suffered but most of them thankfully survived the bitter battle.

Yen.com.gh takes a look at 5 celebrities that have suffered and may still be suffering from chronic diseases.

1. Christopher Opoku

The Ghanaian journalist has been battling with cancer for quite a number of years and has been off air for over a year now, on sick leave.

2. McJordan Amartey

The veteran actor is reported to have diabetes which has led to him losing one of his legs after it got infected. The actor is still battling the disease.

3. Rama Brew

Rama Brew went missing from TV and was not spotted in public for a while until the actress and singer revealed in an interview on TV3 that she was off recovering from an illness. Her drastic weightloss and shaved hair raised speculations that Ms. Brew may have suffered from cancer.

4. OJ Blaq

The rapper is said to be suffering from kidney failure that has left him hospitalised for some time now. Pictures recently emerged of OJ in a hospital bed with friends and family visiting. A source close to the rapper says the disease is temporary as he is on dialysis.

5. Paapa Yankson

The legendary singer was recently spotted in a wheelchair when he was introduced to perform at the Exclusive Men of The Year Awards held in June, 2016. Many were not aware the ace highlife singer has been battling with some illness and was surprised to see him in that state.
