Agradaa: Ghana Prisons Service Denies Rumours About Televangelist’s Reported Health Issues in Prison

The Ghana Prisons Service has reacted to the ongoing rumours about the imprisoned televangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agradaa's alleged health issues in prison.

In a press release signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Deputy Director of Prisons Janet Asabea, the Service denied claims that the founder of the Heaven Way International Church had been battling a severe illness in recent weeks.
According to the Ghana Prisons Service, the rumours about Agradaa's alleged health issues were false and misleading. They noted that the false claims were intentionally made by some mischievous individuals who wanted to gain followers on social media.
The Service cautioned the public against falling for such fabrications, stressing that they are nothing more than attempts to incite unnecessary tension.
The Ghana Police Service also dismissed claims that some inmates in their custody were receiving preferential treatment.
Netizens claim Agradaa is ill in prison
The Ghana Prisons Service's press release comes days after some netizens claimed that Agradaa was severely ill at the Nsawam Female prisons and was on the verge of passing away.
They claimed the embattled televangelist was experiencing discomfort and was suffering from swollen legs as she served her 15-day jail sentence.
It was also alleged that she was often in tears and was receiving special medical assistance from her family doctor at least four times a week.

Why is Agradaa in prison?
Agradaa was sentenced by an Accra Circuit Court for 15 years with hard labour on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
She was convicted on two counts of defrauding by false pretences and one count of charlatanic advertisement.

A former traditional priestess was accused of defrauding multiple victims through a 2022 televised broadcast, during which she falsely claimed to possess spiritual powers capable of doubling money.
Through her fraudulent scheme, several individuals handed over large sums of money in the hope of receiving miraculous financial returns from her that were never received.
Following her imprisonment, her husband and junior pastor, Angel Asiamah, has taken control of the church as the lead pastor.

Agradaa's church facing decline after her imprisonment
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Agradaa's church faced decline weeks after she was imprisoned for her crimes.
In a video, the compound of the church building was filled with filth, weeds, and rainwater, and the walls collapsed.
Footage of Agradaa's church raised concerns among some of the televangelist's supporters on social media.
