Speaking in a video shared on X on April 29, 2026, the MP said he believes Shatta Wale is a member of the NDC and that the party would be his natural platform should he decide to enter politics.
"I believe he is NDC, so I am sure that if he wants to contest, he will do so on the ticket of the NDC," Ashie said.
The MP's endorsement follows the musician's earlier public statement expressing an intention to contest for a parliamentary seat.
In a recent interview, Shatta Wale has hinted at his readiness to contest as an MP for Ablekuma South in 2028 as an independent candidate.
He advocated for restructuring Ghana's governance laws, criticising the outdated 1992 Constitution
The musician emphasised a commitment to policy proposals over populist promises in his potential campaign
Ashie, who described Shatta Wale as a brother, saying the artiste's father is like a father to him, also praised the musician's popularity and creativity, adding that he would personally support his political bid.
"He is the commander of the streets, and we all enjoy his music. I am a strong fan of his," he said.

Does Ashie's endorsement fit Shatta Wale's agenda?
While Alfred Ashie's endorsement sounds nice, brotherly and may even be strategic, Owusu Worae thinks it does not fit Shatta Wale's agenda.
"First, the political calculus. Ashie described the musician as a close associate, spoke warmly of their personal relationship, and praised the artiste's influence and creativity by calling him "the commander of the streets." In Ghanaian electoral politics, street influence is not a trivial asset. It translates to mobilisation, visibility, and the kind of grassroots energy that party machinery alone cannot manufacture. An NDC-aligned Shatta Wale on the ballot would be a formidable crowd-puller in any urban constituency.
"However, there is a significant tension in this story that deserves scrutiny. Shatta Wale himself has insisted he would only run as an independent candidate, not on any party platform and was explicit. It thus makes the MP's framing of Shatta Wale as an NDC man problematic. It's either a reflection of a genuine private conversation or an early attempt by the party to claim the artist's brand before he formally declares anything.
"This gap, between Shatta Wale's stated independent stance and the MP's NDC framing, is the most politically interesting part of the story. It raises the question of whether the endorsement is sincere support or strategic positioning by the NDC to pre-empt a potentially disruptive independent candidacy in a seat they want to hold."
