The children of the late Ghanaian Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah stepped out publicly on Thursday, August 6, 2026, to attend the National Interfaith Memorial Service held in honour of the eight victims of the 2025 Obuasi helicopter crash.

The solemn ceremony took place at the University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA) Auditorium in Accra, drawing mourners dressed in matching black-and-white patterned traditional attire.

Footage captured the late Omane Boamah's family moving through a police checkpoint before entering the indoor venue, with the Christian hymn "It is well with my soul" playing softly in the background, lending a deeply mournful tone to the occasion.

Obuasi helicopter crash memorial service

The interfaith service brought together family members, dignitaries, and well-wishers to pay their respects to the eight people who lost their lives in the Obuasi helicopter crash.

Dr Omane Boamah, who served as Ghana's Minister of Defence, was among the eight victims killed in the tragedy.

MP for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Dr Ibrahim Muftala Mohammed, acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Muhammad, NDC National Vice Chairman Dr Samuel Sarpong, Samuel Aboagye, serving as Deputy Director-General of NADMO also died in the aircraft crash.

Three Ghana Air Force personnel, including Squad Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Mensah Addo, were also victims.
