NPP's Salam Mustapha Threatens Demonstration Against Gov't over Arrests of Opposition Members

The Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has called for an end to the 'arbitrary' arrests of members of the opposition by the security agencies.

He stated that the apparent harassment of members of the NPP by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by President John Mahama, had reached its zenith.

Salam Mustapha said the NPP was at a point where they could no longer tolerate the 'harassment' of their members.

Consequently, the National Youth Organiser threatened to lead a massive protest against the Mahama-led administration and its security agencies if the arrest of its members persists.

"This is an affront to the democracy we are all building. And so, if this government does not stop harassing members of the NPP, I'm telling you, today, we are going to demonstrate against the police. Me, the National Youth Organiser, I'm going to lead it," he said.

The NPP National Youth Organiser made these remarks while at the premises of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to demand the release of the Bono Regional Chairman of the party, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.

Abronye DC arrested for 'breaching the peace'

Abronye DC was arrested on Monday, September 8, 2025, by personnel from the Ghana Police Service.

The police, in a statement, said that the controversial politician was apprehended for 'offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace'.

He was subsequently arraigned before the court on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, but the presiding judge denied him bail and remanded him into police custody.

In a related development, YEN.com.gh reported on the arrest of an NPP social media activist, Sir Obama Pokuase, who was picked up by unknown men believed to be national security operatives.

A parliamentary candidate for the party, Akosua Manu, disclosed the arrest in a viral social media post. She described the move as crude but offered no further details on the commentator's alleged arrest.
