Abronye DC Granted GH¢50,000 Bail After Spending a Week in Police Custody

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been granted GH¢50,000 bail by the Accra High Court.
Abronye DC was granted bail of GH¢50,000 with one surety, without justification, on Monday, September 15, 2025, after spending a week in police custody.

Addressing the media after the court hearing, the lead counsel for Abronye DC, Daniel Mantey Addo, stated that his client's health condition had deteriorated, but the news of the bail brought him some relief.
Before he can be released to go home to join his family, Abronye DC and his legal team must race against time to meet the bail conditions.

Circumstances surrounding Abronye DC's arrest
Abronye DC was arrested on Monday, September 8, 2025, by armed security personnel from the Ghana Police Service.
The Ghana Police Service on Monday explained that the controversial politician was arrested for “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace.”
The NPP Bono Regional Chairman was subsequently arraigned before Accra Circuit Court 9 on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, where the presiding judge remanded him into custody and scheduled his next appearance for Friday, September 12, 2025.
However, when he appeared in court on September 12, the presiding judge denied him bail for the second time, remanding him into police custody for another week.
Judge in Abronye case slammed
The decision by the judge to deny Abronye DC bail sparked criticism on social media, as many practising lawyers found the judgment to be inconsistent with Ghana's laws.
Lawyer Hamza Suhuyini, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, criticised the recent ruling in the case involving Abronye DC.
The UK-trained lawyer described the trial court's decision as one that “defies every logic and legal principle” he has encountered in his career.
"So when I read the judgment, I saw it more as a self-serving agenda aimed at forcing a consistent narrative down our throats. That is not why the NDC won power. The NDC did not win power to continue the perpetuation of illegalities in our law courts," he added.

NPP to protest against state-sponsored harassment
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported that the NPP youth wing announced its intentions to stage a protest in Accra on September 23, 2025, over alleged abuse of power and state-sponsored harassment.
The NPP's intended protest was sparked by the arrest and continued detention of Bono Regional Chairman Abronye DC.
The NPP party leaders, including Justin Kodua and Afenyo-Markin, are expected to join the march.
