The Spokesperson for the Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu, has petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to investigate Ghana's former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, for corruption.
This comes after the former Vice President was captured in a viral video bragging to NPP delegates that he had purchased 300 Nissan Navara pickups for the party in the run-up to the 2024 general elections.

According to Solomon Owusu, even if Dr Bawumia combined his entire earnings as the former Vice President and Governor of the Bank of Ghana, he still cannot afford the vehicles he reportedly donated to the NPP in 2024.
The outspoken politician consequently demanded that the OSP probe the source of funding for Dr Bawumia's donation.
In the petition submitted to the OSP, Solomon Owusu asked the OSP, led by Kissi Agyebeng, to trace the origin of the 300 vehicles and investigate possible abuse of office by Dr Bawumia as a former Vice President of the Republic of Ghana.
He stated that Dr Bawumia's ability to raise such significant funds to procure the vehicles raised suspicions of abuse of influence, conflict of interest, and diversion of resources.
The Movement for Change spokesperson further argued that the former Vice President's actions potentially violate anti-corruption and political financing laws.

Solomon Owusu urges OSP to investigate Akufo-Addo
Solomon Owusu is one of the disgruntled members of the NPP, who left the party to form the Movement for Change.
On July 19, 2025, he urged the OSP to invite Ghana's former president, Nana Akufo-Addo, for questioning over the National Cathedral project.
"The Office of the Special Prosecutor at one point invited President Mahama and questioned him. This is an opportunity for this administration to also question Nana Akufo-Addo. Because he paid—in one of the responses, they started making payments even before signing agreements," he said.
"The National Cathedral Secretariat mentioned Nana Akufo-Addo's name. In fact, they said he engaged them and started paying. So, they can go and find out from him. They have given you a clue that you should go and find out from him and let us know whether he had the power to do what he did," he added.
Political analyst raises accountability concerns
Reacting to this in an interview with YEN.com.gh, Nabil Abubakar, a political analyst and member of the Action Movement for Bawumia 2028, said that the petition by Solomon Owusu asking the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to investigate Dr. Bawumia raised serious questions about political accountability and transparency.
He noted that while petitions were part of democratic processes, the timing and framing of the move also made it political.
Abubakar added that if the OSP took up the petition, it could either clear Dr. Bawumia's name or damage his credibility further, especially in an election season, and would likely add to the tense political atmosphere, keeping corruption-related narratives alive in Ghana's discourse.
