"I Pray You Become Ghana's First Female President": Haruna Iddrisu Praises Prof Naana Jane
- Haruna Iddrisu has expressed hope that Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang will become Ghana’s first female President

The Minister for Education and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has expressed his heartfelt desire for Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s political career.
Speaking during a visit to the ministry by the Vice President recently, the Education Minister said he was hoping for Prof Naana Jane to make history as Ghana’s first female President.

“It is a great honour and privilege to welcome you back to the Ministry of Education, this time in an elevated capacity as the first female Vice President of our republic. It is my prayer that God will give you long life and good health, and that you will be elevated to become the first female President of our country,” he said.

Haruna Iddrisu also praised the Vice President for her dedication to education, gender rights, and inclusiveness in government.
“I have been with you through at least the first and second sessions of cabinet, and I can say without fear of contradiction that you remain an unquestioned champion of education, gender rights and inclusiveness in the pursuit of good governance,” he added.
Prof Naana Jane was on a working visit to the Education Ministry, which is one of the three ministries she is supervising.
Before becoming Vice President, the female politician previously served at the Education Ministry between 2013 and 2017.

Naana Jane remains coy on presidential ambitions
The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) will go to the polls in 2027 to elect a new presidential candidate for the 2028 elections.
While names of some bigwigs of the party have been bandied about on social media as potential flagbearer aspirants, Prof Naana Jane remains coy on her presidential ambitions, leaving many to wonder if she is even interested.

Haruna Iddrisu himself has been highly tipped to lead the NDC in 2028 as the party's presidential candidate.
Sometime last week, social media was awash with fliers purported to be campaign posters of the Vice President for the NDC’s flagbearer race.
However, Prof Sharif Mahmud Khalid, the economic advisor to the Vice President, labelled the fliers as fake.
In 2020, Prof Naana Jane became the first female to be nominated for the position of a running mate of a major political party in Ghana after then-candidate Mahama named her on his ticket.
President Mahama re-nominated her as his running mate for the 2024 elections, a race they went on to win resoundingly.
On January 7, 2025, Prof Naana Jane was sworn in as the first female Vice President of the Republic of Ghana.

Prof Naana Jane enstooled as traditional leader
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh also reported that Professor Naana Jane had attended the Komendaman Nyeyi Festival of the Komenda people.
At the event, the chiefs and people of the region enstooled the Vice President as a traditional leader because of her role in nation-building.
Prof Naana Jane was given the stool name Owoabrempong Kru-Kow I and adorned with a kente cloth to symbolise her enstoolment.
