Former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy General Secretary Samuel Koku Anyidoho has strongly criticised Nii Lante Vanderpuye over his recent apology to Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) CEO Sammy Gyamfi.
Anyidoho accused the former Minister of Youth and Sports of hypocrisy and recalled a previous dispute between them following the death of former President John Evans Atta Mills.

In a post on X on Friday, August 21, 2026, Koku Anyidoho said he and Vanderpuye were once “very close brothers” but accused him of doing nothing to help honour the memory of the late president.
He also alleged that Vanderpuye had previously held a press conference accusing him of attempting to exhume the late president’s remains for ritual purposes.
“We were very close brothers; President Atta-Mills died and all I did was defy all odds to give him a befitting resting place; you did absolutely NOTHING to help honour the memory of our late Leader and boss,” Anyidoho wrote.
He further accused Vanderpuye of damaging his political career and questioned his ambition to become the NDC’s National Chairman.
“You want to become National Chairman of our great NDC? This gross inability to be true to your conscience has FINISHED your political career,” he added.
Anyidoho also urged Vanderpuye to seek forgiveness at the Asomdwee Park, where former President Atta Mills was laid to rest.
“Go to Asomdwe Park and beg for forgiveness. What are you struggling to ‘clarify’? Apuuuuu!!!! You thought you were destroying me,” he said.

Vanderpuye apologises to Sammy Gyamfi
The controversy involving Vanderpuye followed comments he made during a television discussion about Sammy Gyamfi’s recent exchange with Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

Gyamfi, speaking in his capacity as GoldBod CEO, had strongly responded to allegations by Afenyo-Markin that GoldBod had incurred a $1.7 billion financial loss.
During the heated exchange, Gyamfi described Afenyo-Markin as a “noisemaker” and accused him of having “bastardised and depraved” his parliamentary office.
Vanderpuye subsequently criticised Gyamfi’s choice of language and said he would not have used the same words.
“I wouldn't use those words. I wouldn't want anyone to use that on a platform like that. You are not speaking to only that person; you are speaking to the entire country,” he said.
He went further to say: “I will sit here and apologise on behalf of Sammy Gyamfi, even if he has not done that.”
NDC backlash
Vanderpuye’s comments reportedly triggered criticism from sections of the NDC, particularly among party supporters who accused him of undermining Gyamfi and appearing to side with Afenyo-Markin.
The backlash came at a time when Vanderpuye is seeking to become the NDC’s National Chairman, increasing the political significance of his comments.
He later issued an apology and retraction, describing his remarks as an “error of judgment and communication”.

“I wish to sincerely apologise for my comments during my presentation on Channel One TV this morning. Having had the opportunity to listen carefully to myself and reflect on the discussion, I acknowledge that I did not communicate my intended position in the manner I should have. I take full responsibility for that,” Vanderpuye said.
He explained that his intention was to defend GoldBod but acknowledged that his choice of words created a wrong impression.
However, his apology has now drawn a strong response from Anyidoho, who has revived their longstanding political dispute and questioned Vanderpuye’s suitability for the NDC National Chairmanship.
Sammy Gyamfi dares Afenyo-Markin to summon him
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported that Sammy Gyamfi had challenged Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin to formally invite him before Parliament over alleged GoldBod gold trading losses.
The GoldBod CEO had dismissed claims linking the institution to losses under the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme as unfounded.
The controversy had centred on an IMF document cited in reports alleging a $1.7 billion loss, prompting calls for a parliamentary probe.
