Gary Al-Smith, a journalist at the Multimedia Group Limited (MGL), has taken activists of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the cleaners for claiming that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is fixing the country.
Some unhappy Ghanaians on Twitter have been venting their anger over what they say is the failure on the part of successive administrations to improve the lives of the citizenry through the hashtag “Fixthecountry”.
Tens of thousands of posts have been made on social media highlighting some of the challenges with the Ghanaian economy.
However, a group of NPP activists and foot soldiers countered the “Fixthecountry” campaigners with the hashtag “NanaIsFixingIt”.
Reacting to the hashtag, the sports journalist stated in a tweet sighted by YEN.com.gh that: "After spending most of yesterday telling us #FixYourSelf and #FixYourAttitude, they've noticed that isn't a good response.”
“So it is now #NanaIsFixingIt and #GhanaIsBeingFixed. I wanna say Nana is fixing onyɛ but it's too early. Just #FixTheCountry because you've got the power,” he added.
The tweet sparked series of reactions and YEN.com.gh compiled a few.
@ManKujoe stated: “I just lost my respect for you tbh... insulting pple just because they disagree with you is below the belt...we don't want to go back to the culture of silence.”
said: “I ask have you #FixYourSelf by apologising for you bad comments on Fabio Gama's acquisition. I also ask is a country fixed overnight. Yes I believe the President @NAkufoAddo has to #FixTheCountry but it takes times and trust me #NanaIsFixingIt let's not be hypocrites.”
@adekerker observed: “Sure! Nana is fixing ony3 raise to the power 1000000
If you’re ok wherever you find yourself, just sit there and keep quite.

@Triqpah state: “Nana is Fixing ony3 di3 3noaa nono woaka woaka ...They just dont think. Gyimi s3m sei Nkwasea keka nkoaa. #nanaIsfixingony3 Reversed hand with middle finger extended #FixTheCountry
@IngAffum said: “Gary is not happy and so is everyone. The country is in a mess, livelihood is in deplorable state. Taxes are too much, salary stays the same. Entrepreneurs can’t cope with the heat. We Ghanaians are not asking for too much, we just need things to stabilize #FixTheCountry.”
In other news, former President John Dramani Mahama charged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to restrategise its election monitoring mechanism.
Speaking at the annual conference of the party’s Professional Forum in Accra last Thursday, Mahama called for the need to deploy astute professionals and educated members of the party to monitor the 2024 general elections.
That, he said will ensure the elections are not stollen.
“We must ensure that we have more professionals and more educated people coming into play in respect of policing and monitoring the elections at the grassroots level,” Mahama, who’s the party presidential candidate in the 2020 general elections urged.
