The ceremony marked the end of a never-seen-before sporting bonanza that saw legends rubberstamp their authority, new champions crowned, and everlasting memories made.

The on-field action across the 32 sports was excellent despite contentious sideshows, such as drag queens in the opening ceremony.
Apart from the incredible storylines of Beatrice Chebet winning two gold medals on her debut, Letsile Tebogo winning Africa's first gold in the 200m, Nigeria women's basketball team reaching the quarters and many more, there were also some rib-tickling moments.

6. Steph Curry is a devil
Steph Curry ran riot for the USA's basketball team in the Gold Medal match against France, scoring eight three-pointers.
The four-time NBA champion rolled back the years, hitting the shots from downtime to vanquish any hopes of a French win on home soil.
So good was he that the French commentator on duty in that game called him a devil.
"...and this devil called Curry. This Devil called Curry is hurting us."

5. LeBron James thought he was being applauded
Let's stick with basketball, shall we? LeBron James has, over the years, grown accustomed to being praised on any court he steps onto. That's the price you pay for being one of the best basketball players ever seen.
So you can understand why he thought the cheers from the crowd were for him during their quarter-final match against Brazil. The Los Angeles Lakers star saw himself on the screen and 'recognised' the crowd.
However, the newsflash in this situation was that the applause was for Leon Marchand, who was among the fans at the Accor Arena. Marchand became a hero overnight for the French after winning four gold medals during the Olympics.

4. Turkish shooter insane aura
Yusuf Dikec became an instant social media sensation after his nonchalant pose en route to winning a silver medal in shooting went viral, as reported by CNN.
The Turkish shooter had his hand in his pockets, stood casually and did not have any of the optical gadgets his opponents had but still rode to a podium finish.
His pose quickly became a celebration, with Armando Duplantis doing it after breaking the pole vault world record.
Aura for aura.
3. Chinese medalist taught new celebration
Zhou Yaqin bagged a silver medal in the women's balance beam artistic gymnastics final but was so confused about how to celebrate.
The situation was made worse when she turned and saw her fellow podium finishers biting their medals. She also tried the new celebration, which makes for hilarious viewing.

2. What was Raygun doing?
Australian breakdancer Racheal Gunn, who competes under the stage name Raygun, went viral with her on-floor routine.
BBC reported that Raygun failed to score any points as she lost 54-0 in three round-robin contests.
She has become a worldwide meme, with many comparing her routine to how the kangaroo bounces.

1. Man misses medal because of own manhood
A few days before Duplantis grabbed all the headlines with another world record, French pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati suffered an embarrassing elimination.
Ammirati attempted to clear one of the levels, but his manhood made contact with the bar as he went over.
He finished 12th in group A, which subsequently denied him a chance to move to the final and compete for a medal.
People are blessed differently, I guess.

Beatrice Chebet bags Kenya's first gold
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Beatrice Chebet bagged Kenya's first gold medal at the Paris Olympics after winning the women's 5000m.
Chebet, the world bronze in the distance, outsprinted Kipyegon in the final meters to win her first Olympic medal.
