How Cole Palmer joined Chelsea

The 22-year-old came through that ranks at Man City, but intense competition for position saw him make 14 senior appearances.

In the summer of 2023, the defending Premier League champions decided to sell him to Chelsea, who were spending extravagantly on the market. The Blues paid £40million for his services.

The transfer paid off for Chelsea. He registered 27 goals and 15 assists to help the club recover from a disastrous start to the campaign, per Transfermarkt.

He has already scored seven goals and five assists in 13 matches this term, making him considered one of the best players in the Premier League this campaign.

Palmer's message to Man City WhatsApp group

The forward recently opened up about the days leading up to his transfer to West London. He was so eager for an agreement to be reached that he asked the kitman if the deal was done.

"I remember training on a Wednesday at City in the afternoon, and the news was, ‘They’re trying to agree a fee’. Every time the ball went out I’d ask the kitman or the doctor if they’ve agreed the fee yet," he told GQ via Manchester Evening News.

He didn't get to say proper goodbyes to his teammates, so he sent a brief message to the group chat.
