Ruben Amorim Explains Why Mourinho, ten Hag, Other Man Utd Coaches After Ferguson Failed
- New Manchester United coach Ruben has explained why coaches appointed since Sir Alex Ferguson have failed
- The former Sporting CP boss has been preparing to lead Man United for the first time this weekend at Ipswich
- He is the sixth permanent coach the club has appointed since Ferguson retired after winning his 13th Premier League title
Manchester United hired Ruben Amorim as their new permanent coach, the sixth coach since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.
The 20-time English champions have drastically declined since Ferguson retired in 2013 after winning his 13th Premier League crown.
Amorim has reportedly explained why managers hired after Ferguson struggled to take Man United to the top.
Man United coaches after Ferguson
Ferguson handpicked David Moyes to replace him, but it didn't go how he expected. He lasted 51 games before veteran tactician Louis van Gaal replaced him in 2014.
The Dutchman coached the team for two seasons but was fired shortly after winning the 2016 FA Cup and replaced by Jose Mourinho.
When he arrived at the club, Mourinho was one of the best coaches in the world. He spent two and a half seasons there before leaving in December 2018 after winning the League Cup and the Europa League, per Transfermarkt.
Club legend Ole Gunnar replaced him and made an instant impact. Although he didn't win any trophies, his side produced some memorable performances, including beating Manchester City a few times and winning the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain.
Ralf Rangnick took charge in an interim capacity, but it was a horrible spell. Erik ten Hag was hired in 2022 but was fired last month after winning the FA Cup and League Cup.
Why Man United managers post-Ferguson failed
Amorim will coach his first match as Man United boss this weekend against Ipswich away from home.
According to reports in England, as quoted by Daily Mail, Amorim said post-Ferguson coaches have failed because they have 'lived in the shadow' of the legendary manager rather than get their team to 'play with his spirit'.
The former Sporting CP boss has been tasked with improving the club's performances, especially in the Premier League.
How Man United will play under Amorim
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Amorim briefly described how Manchester United could play when he takes charge for his first game.
He emphasised that he wants his team to play "without fear," meaning we will see a much more gung-ho style at Old Trafford. Amorim's Sporting played a 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-3 formation.
