His future has been the subject of intense speculation throughout the summer, and a move now looks imminent.

However, Fiorentina appear to have won the race for his signature, with the Serie A club expected to confirm the deal before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Football Italia reports suggest Brighton will receive around €6m (£5.2m) plus bonuses, while Lamptey is set to sign a four-year contract with the Viola.

He is expected to become a backup to starting right wing-back Dodo, although the 24-year-old can also be deployed on the left flank.

Lamptey has gone for medicals ahead of completing his move, as seen in the photos below:

The Ghana international, capped eight times internationally, is currently under contract with Brighton until June 2026.

Lamptey’s 2023/24 campaign was disrupted by recurring injuries, restricting him to only 15 appearances for Brighton.

Even so, he chipped in with two goals and a handful of assists.

This season, however, he has yet to feature, having been left out of the squad for Brighton’s opening three games against Fulham, Everton, and Oxford United.

Since joining Brighton from Chelsea, the former right-back has accumulated 104 appearances, scoring three goals and establishing himself as a versatile option on the flank.

Ghana will first travel to N’Djamena to face Chad on September 4, before returning home to host Mali on September 8.

According to FIFA's official website, Ghana, which failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), currently leads Group I of the African 2026 World Cup qualification with 15 points, having won five of their six matches so far, with Comoros following closely with 12 points.

The Black Stars' superb run in the qualifiers began with a 1-0 win over Madagascar and a sole loss to Comoros (0-1) in 2023, followed by wins over Mali (2-1) and Central African Republic (4-3) in 2024, and then victories against Chad (5-0) and Madagascar (3-0) this year so far.
