In the 83rd minute, Dominik Szoboszlai produced a stunning free-kick reminiscent of Trent Alexander-Arnold to seal victory for the Reds and hand them three crucial points in the title race.

Arsenal’s injury woes struck again early, as key defender William Saliba limped off with a suspected foot problem just five minutes in, forcing Mikel Arteta to turn to Cristhian Mosquera.

Despite battling hard and frustrating Liverpool for long spells, the Gunners struggled to carve out any real, clear-cut opportunities.

Arteta set up his attack with Gabriel Martinelli and Noni Madueke on the flanks, while Viktor Gyökeres spearheaded the frontline.

But Arsenal supporters took to social media to voice their frustration at Arteta’s choice to start Martinelli ahead of new signing Eze, who immediately caught the eye after coming on in the second half for his debut following a move from Crystal Palace.

Eze replaced Martinelli in the 70th minute and quickly impressed, while fans criticised the Brazilian for his underwhelming performance in attack.

"I saw more from Eze in this game than Martinelli. Eze should be our permanent starter now if we're actually serious this season, Martinelli shouldn't even be a backup we should just sell the guy."

@Gravitygunner14 posted:

"Eze did more in 20 minutes than Martinelli in this entire season. He really needs to be sold or hold the bench!"

@DaRealDonreal commented:

"Eze done more in 5 minutes than Martinelli in 70."

@OsmanZtheGooner said:

"Game very low on quality decided by an unreal moment of quality. Eze should’ve been on at half-time. Martinelli has lost everything."

@YourBoyMoyo added:

"You see what Eze is bringing?? I don’t want to see Martinelli again."

Eze, a £67.5 million signing, has put himself in contention to start when Arsenal return to Premier League action after the international break, following his lively cameo against Liverpool.

He combined well with Martin Ødegaard in attack and made a promising run into the box before being dispossessed.

The Gunners will resume their campaign on September 13 against Nottingham Forest, heading into the break with six points from their first three league fixtures.

Arsenal fans rue Partey's absence after Liverpool loss

Earlier, YEN.com.gh highlighted how Arsenal fans longed for the influence of former midfielder Thomas Partey following their narrow 1-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday.

One supporter remarked, “Zubimendi is nowhere near the quality of Thomas Partey, like nowhere near.”
