According to Wikipedia, Daniel Opare first made waves at Obuasi Ashantigold and then with the Black Starlets at the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Per L'Equipe, Opare's top performances earned him a move to Real Madrid’s youth setup, Castilla, in 2008. Considered one of Ghana’s brightest young prospects alongside Dominic Adiyiah, the talented teenager was expected to rise quickly in Europe.
However, despite spending two seasons with Real Madrid Castilla, he never managed to break into the senior squad. Nonetheless, his time in Madrid allowed him to refine his skills and adapt to elite-level training, laying the foundation for his professional career.
Many football pundits and journalists have expressed regret over Daniel Opare’s unfulfilled potential at Real Madrid.
Ghanaian sports journalist James Bawa, speaking to YEN.com.gh, lamented:
“It’s truly heartbreaking to see a talent like Daniel Opare never get his chance at Real Madrid. He had the skill and the promise, but sometimes timing and opportunity just don’t align.”
Daniel Opare's resurgence in Belgium
After his frustrating spell at Real Madrid, Opare moved to Belgian side Standard Liège in 2010, marking a turning point in his career.
He quickly became a first-team regular, making over 110 appearances during his four-year stint, and later returned to Belgium to play for Antwerp and Zulte Waregem.

Known for his attacking runs despite being a right-back, the ex-Ghana U20 star's performances in Belgium earned him recognition as one of the most talented African defenders in Europe.
Following his time at Standard Liège, he went on to represent other clubs, including Porto in Portugal and Augsburg in Germany.
However, it is widely regarded that his Belgian tenure represented the peak of his club career.
Opare's quiet decline
As of April 2023, Opare has been without a club, prompting speculation about his potential retirement. The 34-year-old has yet to make any official announcements regarding stepping away from professional football.
Despite the uncertainty, Opare continues to train and maintain his fitness, reportedly seeking a return to professional football in the 2025/26 season.
Away from professional football, the former Ashantigold full-back maintains a low-key presence online, occasionally sharing glimpses of his life through Instagram stories.
These rare posts show him keeping fit, enjoying travel, and spending time at leisure. Unlike the fast-paced life of a professional athlete, Opare appears to be embracing a quieter, more balanced chapter—something many players only find after retiring.
