The news comes as a blow for Barcelona fans, who have been enjoying the teenager’s rise as one of Europe’s most promising young forwards, a top contender for the 2025 Ballon d'Or.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick expressed frustration over the young player’s treatment while on international duty with Spain.

According to Flick, as cited by Sports Illustrated, Yamal was pushed to play even while receiving painkillers, which he believes compromised the player’s well-being:

"Spain gave him painkillers and even when they were winning they made him play. This is not taking care of the players. I'm very sad about this."

Flick’s comments have sparked a debate over the welfare of young talents in international football and the importance of proper player management.

Yamal’s absence comes at a critical point in Barcelona’s season. With important La Liga and Champions League fixtures approaching, the team will need to adjust tactically.

Fan reaction to Yamal's injury

@Leaks2Futbul wrote:

''Thanks” to De la Fuente for forcing a player with discomfort to stay on the field almost the entire match with the score already decided. Thanks for “taking care of the players.”

@DRCarlos commented:

''The club should report the negligence of the national team coach before it's too late. The next one is Pedri. You have been more than warned about how the Federation and the coach operate. It's in your hands. I repeat, the next one will be Pedri.''

@Edumttz said:

''Until the players stop to think about their future and say NO to their national teams, they simply deserve every single one of the injuries that these call-ups bring them. It seems that what happened with Gavi was not a lesson learned. 90 minutes in a 6-0. Bravo Lamine!''
