Spanish La Liga club Barcelona has been dealt a significant blow with the news that midfielder Gavi could be out for up to five months following knee surgery.
The 21-year-old, who played in the club’s opening two matches of the season, sustained the injury to his right knee during a training session in August.

Gavi's injury at Barcelona
There were initial concerns that the Spain international had suffered a recurrence of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear that kept him sidelined for most of 2023.
However, according to Barca Universal, scans confirmed that he had avoided another ACL rupture. Instead, Gavi underwent surgery to repair cartilage damage in his knee.

An X statement from the club explained:
“Gavi has had an arthroscopy to resolve a medial meniscus injury, which was sutured to preserve the meniscus. Recovery time is estimated at around 4–5 months.”
Gavi has already built an impressive career since making his Barcelona debut in 2021 as the club’s fourth-youngest debutant.
According to Transfermarkt, he has gone on to make 155 appearances, scoring 10 goals and winning five trophies in the process. On the international stage, he has also earned 28 caps for Spain.
Meanwhile, this is not the first major setback for the young midfielder. In November 2023, he suffered a serious ACL injury while on duty with Spain, which ruled him out of action for 11 months.
His latest absence, though not as severe, still represents another frustrating chapter in his career.

In the meantime, Barcelona currently sit second in La Liga, five points behind leaders and rivals Real Madrid but with a game in hand.
The Catalan giants will now have to cope without one of their most dynamic young stars as they continue their push for domestic and European success.
Following the announcement that Gavi could be sidelined for four to five months, many Barcelona fans voiced their concerns, while others flooded him with messages of support and well-wishes.

Lamine Yamal's injury
In an earlier report, YEN.com.gh highlighted the injury setback of another Barcelona key player, Lamine Yamal, who was forced to miss crucial fixtures against Valencia and Newcastle United due to fitness concerns.
His absence compounded the challenges facing Hansi Flick's side, as the Catalans had to navigate important matches without two of their brightest young stars.
