-Minister of Special Development Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson, is willing to resign from her position
-This follows criticisms of her after it was revealed that her ministry had allocated GHC800,000 for the development of a website
The Minister of Special Development Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has expressed her willingness to resigm from her position over the budget scandal that has hit her ministry within the week.
Pressure has been mounting on Madam Koomson to resign following revelations that her ministry had in its budget an GHC800,000 allocation to design a website for the ministry.
Though she has come out explain that the GHC800,000 was an oversight and that the correct figure was GH 80,000, the pressure has not abated.
According to the Minority in Parliament, who are leading calls for her resignation, she has shown that she is grossly incompetentand that her explanation is only in reaction to the huge public outcry over the revelation.
"What we considered at the committee is GH¢800,000, certainly not GH¢80,000. Is the Minister telling me that she is such an incompetent lady to the extent that she couldn’t read and understand her own document?”, Minority spokesperson on Finance Cassiel Ato Forson.
But speaking to journalists over the calls for her to step down, Madam Koomson said she was “ready to resign” if that’s what will please her critics.
This is the economy major financial scandal that has hit the Akufo-Addo government in the last few days.
Earlier this week, the Ministry of Trade and Industry was accused of extorting monies from expatriate businessmen in exchange for a seat by President Nana Akufo-Addo at the Ghana Expatriate Business Awards (GEBA).
The Minister, Alan Kyerematen, was queried by President Akufo-Addo and was later cleared of any wrongdoing in the matter.
