Court sentences 35-year-old man to death by hanging

- A 35-year-old man is to die by hanging after he was found guilty of stabbing a woman

- The Bole man was found guilty by the Tamale High Court after five years of court trial

Tamale High Court in the Northern Region of Ghana, has sentenced a 35-year-old man to death by hanging.

According to Kasapafmonline.com report, the convict who killed his wife’s relative in a fierce struggle over ‘sex’ was handed the sentence on Thursday July 12, 2018 after five years of trial.

The Northern Regional State Attorney who led the prosecution told Kasapa FM that the convict, Nabinte Lokwai, 35, was handed the death sentence after seven member jury unanimously found him guilty of murder.

The convict, Lokwai killed one Gbeni Yongbo at Bale, a village near Bole in the Northern Region on May 19, 2013 when he spotted the deceased picking Shea nuts and approached her, demanding for sex, of which she declined.

But the Nabinte Lokwai who was bent on satisfying his sexual urge attempted to forcibly have sex with the deceased resulting in a struggle between the two.

Lokwai in the process then stabbed Yongbo with a knife, and later went on a hideout after sensing danger.

Further report states that another farmer who heard the deceased screaming during the struggle run to the village and informed members of the community who rushed to the scene, where the body of the deceased was discovered.

Lokwai was subsequently arrested at Chache border near Bole by an Immigration officer while he tried to escape to Cote d’Ivoire.

However, upon his interrogation, the convict then confessed killing the deceased but blamed it on the ‘devil’.

The Immigration officer then handed him over to the police who accompanied him to the crime scene where the body of Gbeni Yongbo was retrieved.
