Mysterious deaths at Tema Newtown gets priest and health service wondering

Information available to YEN.com.gh indicates that residents of Tema Newtown are currently living in bizarre fear amidst a string of "mysterious" deaths in the town.

According to YEN.com.gh sources two people died on Thursday, and that brings to a total number of 17 deaths in the last three days.

The Daily Guide also reports that a team from the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has been sent to the area. Initial conclusions from the GHS team rejects reports that the people died of spiritual ailments.

But this has not calmed the fears. A local chief priest reputed to have spiritual awareness has advocated bathing in a river body.

However, two people died even after taking the prescribed spiritual bath in the sea.

The spiritual bath was sanctioned by the chief priest of the area to revoke curses allegedly invoked on the residents.

Some of the residents have attributed the deaths to the infamous scheme of people submitting to certain rituals to gain monies from cyber-friendships, commonly known as ‘Sakawa’.

They have therefore appealed to churches, the Christian Council, Chief Imam and other religious personalities and bodies in the country to come to their aid.

They are also calling on the government, specifically the health ministry to speed up its investigations.
