Police arrest fake doctor who operated a clinic for 6 years

- A fake doctor, Allotey Addo, has been arrested by the police in Accra

- He has been operating as a medical doctor for six years

- Addo was unable to provide any certificate to confirm his training as a medical doctor when asked to do so

Police officers, in collaboration with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council (GMDC), have arrested a fake doctor in Accra.

Information available to YEN.com.gh shows that the suspect, Allotey Addo, operated the private clinic at Abelenkpe, a suburb of Accra for about six years now.

He was picked when he was chanced upon as he treated patients at Asamoah Clinic on November 1, 2018.

According to reports, Addo claimed he trained as a medical doctor at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi and completed in 2004.

He added that he did his housemanship at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, but was unable to produce certificates to back his claims.

Addo has also not been registered by the Medical and Dental Council, the regulatory body.

A patient on admission at the time of the arrest, according to the council, was evacuated to the emergency unit of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.

Revealing details of the arrest, the Deputy Registrar of the GDMC, Dr Divine Ndonbi Banyubala, said on November 1, 2018, as part of routine visits to some health facilities in the city, spotted a clinic at Abelemkpe near the Marwako Restaurant with the name Asamoah Clinic.

Dr Banyubala said Addo was arrested together with a young woman on November 7, 2018, and handed over to the Tesano police.

The Tesano District Police Commander, Superintendent George Atia, who confirmed the arrest, urged the public to be on the lookout for quacks
