Meet the 131-year-old traditional wife of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II

131 years and still alive is a real blessing. And yes the traditional wife of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is 131 years, alive and kicking.

Her picture popped up during the funeral of the late Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.

According to reports, she saw the birth of the late Asantehemaa and she is currently the traditional wife of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Asanteman is the biggest kingdom in Ghana and headed by the Asantehene. According to Asante culture, the Asantehene must have a traditional wife even though he is allowed to have a personal wife.

It is however not necessary for the Asantehene to perform husband duties with his traditional wife.

The traditional wife of the Asantehene on the other hand is not made to play wifely roles for the Asantehene.

Meanwhile the traditional wife of the Asantehene is included in running the Kingdom where her opinions are sought on some matters.

With the current age of the traditional wife of Asantehene, it is evident that she lived before the current Asantehene was born. Meaning she knows a lot more about the Asante kingship, thus it is often advisable to include her in decision-making.
