Ghanaians descend on Gabby Otchere Darko for bragging about his children who study at GIS

A political activist, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has been sent to the cleaners for expressing his joy about successes chalked by his children at the Ghana International School (GIS).

Known as a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and an advocate of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, many were baffled at the fact that his children attended an international school in Ghana.

Some expressed their surprise at his decision concerning the education of his children while others sought to justify it:

Nkrumah-Boateng wondered about the justification for such a suggestion

To Awuku, Gabby's tweet was needless

Ocloo wondered if Gabby was not in the position to afford educating his children at GIS

To Bonney, however, Free SHS should be for everyone

The Akufo-Addo-led administration introduced the Free SHS programme in September 2017 to encourage second cycle education.

Along with it came the double-track system which ensured that students, who have been divided into two groups, enjoy either morning or afternoon shifts in class.

The introduction of the Free SHS concept has been met with varied reactions from a cross-section of Ghanaians.
