Our Manifesto: This is what YEN.com.gh believes in

Ghanaian business and media titan, Osei Kwame Despite is one of the country’s most accomplished entrepreneurs with thriving businesses.

Born on February 2, 1962, Despite had a difficult childhood while growing up because his immediate family was financially incapacitated at the time.

Osei Kwame Despite was compelled to live a horse-like life, starting his career as a petty trader, dealing in music cassettes, padlocks, baby feeding bottles and other merchandise at Dunkwa-Offinso.

The native of Agona Wiamoase in the Ashanti region struggled for years in the village before he joined some friends to seek greener pastures in Nigeria.

However, Despite’s dream to make it outside the country was truncated when he together with over 1 million Ghanaians were expelled and deported back to the country following and presidential executive order, which birth the term "Ghana must go".

Despite started a timber contracting business but it collapsed after timber fell and damaged his chainsaw during one of his trips into the forest.

A determined Osei Kwame became more resilient to achieve success and diversified with Despite Stores, marketing and distributing audio cassettes across the country.

And that was the beginning of his breakthrough and has over the years built Despite Stores into the Despite Group of Companies, one of the largest conglomerates in Ghana.
