Social commentator and head of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jr., has alleged that a military man with a loaded gun has been arrested at the office of John Dramani Mahama.
Kwesi Pratt Jr. is thus seeking an explanation into how this could be possible. Making this claim on the Pan African Television Network, the outspoken political journalist gave more details on how the said operative has his pistol seized by the security apparatus of John Mahama’s office.
“Who is this defense intelligence operative who went to former President John Dramani Mahama’s office with a concealed loaded weapon? The security of former President John Mahama detected it, arrested him and they seized the weapon,” he further stated.
Some supporters and party executives have called for the immediate sacking of the said military officer. YEN.com.gh cannot deny or confirm the story.
This follows bouts of dramatic turns in the aftermath of the general election as John Mahama has resolved never to accept the results and even call to concede. This development has led to nationwide protests of the declared results with some turning violent.
So far, the Deputy National Imam for the Ahlussunna Wal Jama’a Islamic sect, Sheikh Muhammad Kamil Muhammad, has repeated the call on the youth from the various Zongo communities in the country to stay away from the recent post-election demonstrations that have turned violent.
He stated the country is in a crucial period and if the Zong youth will want to be used as tools of creating mayhem then peace will become a scare necessity for everyone.
According to him, even though Ghana has continuously been referred to as an icon of peace in Africa, more needs to be done to consolidate it and the Zongo youth must play their civic roles accordingly.
The defeat of John Mahama in the recently held election has sparked pockets of protests by NDC supporters across the country and parts of the world.
Recently, some Ghanaians in Washington DC have protested the election results. Hoisting placards which read “We Voted Mahama”, these staunch supporters of the former president demand a revocation of the 2020 election results.
So far, John Dramani Mahama has called for an independent audit of all the Pink Sheets from the various polling stations in the country. He recently told observers from the Electoral Commission that he will gladly concede defeat should the audit be done.
The opposition NDC has also dared the electoral commission to make public, copies of pink sheets of the official declaration of results for Techiman South Constituency.
The NDC is insisting it won the parliamentary race in the constituency where 2 people were shot dead during the polls.
The minority leader Haruna Iddrisu says all attempts to get the commission furnish the party with the declaration sheets have proven futile. He alleges the commission’s failure to produce the declared results is an indication the commission manipulated figures to favor of the governing NPP.
“I’m challenging the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, the regional EC director for Bono East and the returning officer for Techiman South to make public whatever result they have so declared for the constituency, we demand that in the name of transparency then we know what it is that NPP or NDC obtained against each other was. We simply can’t find the results. It means that its open day light robbery and disrespect for the laws of Ghana,” he demanded.
Meanwhile, Paramount Chief of the Techiman Traditional Area in the Bono East Region, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw, has condemned the shooting incident that led to the death of two people in the area during the just ended elections. He observed under no circumstance should innocent citizens be shot-dead in the manner it occurred in Techiman.
Election results declared by the Returning Officer to the President – Jean Mensa – confirms that John Mahama was unable to garner 50 plus one votes. The results show that John Mahama polled 6,214,889 while Nana Addo polled 6,730,413 votes.
The opposition NDC has fiercely rejected the results of the election. John Mahama has described it as flawed and rigged. Party supporters have also picketed at the headquarters of the Electoral Commission on various occasions against the results.
Political scientists at the Department of Political Science of the University of Ghana argue that forming a parallel government is unconstitutional. Such acts can even trigger treasonable offences.
The Managing news editor of the crusading guide newspaper says that the results of presidential and parliamentary elections have been gazette. He believes it will only take a judgment from the Supreme Court to reverse the results of the elections.
Speaking on Joy News, the political commentator condemned John Mahama for not accepting the elections results. He wonders why the very EC results he accepted in the 206 elections is now being contested in 2020.
The international community has hailed Ghana for the peaceful elections. A special convoy from the European Union (EU), also described the elections as generally peaceful.
