Ghanaian schools to reopen in mid-January – Report

- Ghanaian school children are to return to the classroom in mid-January

- It is expected that they go back and resume full activities from 12th-19th January

- This will be the resumption since the long break in March 2020 following the COVID-19 pandemic that rocked Ghana and the world

- President Akufo-Addo is yet to make the announcement after meeting with cabinet on Wednesday, December 30, 2020

Barring any last-minute change, Ghanaian schools are going to be reopened to resume full activities in mid-January 2021.

This decision was reached at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, on the way forward following the closure of schools in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The president, Nana Akufo-Addo, is yet to make this announcement following the deliberations at the meeting.

The report indicates that though the exact reopening date has not been stated, the children are expected to go back between 12-19th January 2021.

Earlier, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, announced that the president would come clear on the matter after the meeting with cabinet.

He hinted that it was possible the reopening date was going to be in January but which has to be finalised by the cabinet.

Oppong Nkrumah assured Ghanaians that the president will definitely take the best decision in the interest of the children and schools.

Meanwhile, schools – from basic education to the university were all closed in March after several cases of coronavirus were first recorded in Ghana.

Later, the final year students of the junior and senior high schools, as well as the universities were made to return to school in order to write their final examination.

The rest have all remained home till now.
