Chelsea have moved into the top four of the Premier League standings following their 2-0 victory over Newcastle United on Monday night, February 15.
The Blues who now have 42 points from 24 matches this season are now seven points behind league leaders Manchester City, who have a game in hand.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has now won five of his six games since he arrived at the Stamford Bridge club, and the game against Newcastle was a rather easy one.
Tammy Abraham was injured in the early exchanges and was replaced by Olivier Giroud in the 20th minute, and the Frenchman opened the scoring when he latched unto a loose ball in the 31st minute to put his side ahead 1-0.
Blues went in front and it was Giroud on his 100th Premier League appearance as a substitute!
Werner did his bit, beating Kraft out wide, and his cross was palmed into the path of Giroud by Darlow. The Frenchman does the rest.
And in the 39th minute, it was Werner who got Chelsea's second goal from close range. A Mason Mount corner deflected into the path of the German as he managed to get the ball over the line to make it 2-0. His first Premier League goal in 15 matches.
There were several efforts by both teams in the second-half, but somehow they could not get any further goals, as that was how it ended.
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said before the game:
"It's my job to create spaces and create chances and make everybody understand how our strikers love to have the ball, how they can be the most dangerous guys they can be, because they have quality.
"Now it’s on us, on me and on their team-mates, to create the chances that they can score."
Meanwhile, it was earlier reported that Liverpool star Mohammed Salah has stated that the reigning Premier League kings will fight like champions until the end of the season.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are now 13 points behind Premier League table toppers Manchester City following their 3-1 loss to Leicester City over the weekend.
It was their third consecutive loss and fans have criticised Klopp’s tactics since the start of the second-half of the campaign.
