Akufo-Addo's secretary alleges Domelevo as Mahama's secret agent

- The Presidency has explained reasons for letting Domelevo to go

- An open letter to CSOs allege Domelevo was fixed to “saddle” Akufo-Addo

- The Akufo-Addo government has been criticized for retiring the Auditor-General

The Office of the President has, in detail, explained the reasons behind the removal of Daniel Domelevo as Auditor General.

An open letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediato Asante, indicates that the former Auditor General was appointed in a rush to serve in anticipation of “unforeseeable circumstances”.

According to the letter, Mr. Domelevo’s name was rushed to the Council of Elders moments after Former President Mahama had lost the 2016 elections.

The open letter further revealed that hitherto, John Mahama had forwarded one Dr. Felix Kwame Aveh but changed his mind after losing the election.

The Secretary to the President further alleges that Domelevo was to “saddle President Akufo-Addo with an Auditor-General whose allegiance was to former president Mahama, instead of the nation”.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo’s administration has been touted as corrupt for letting go the Auditor-General following months of back and forth over his age and pension date.

The recently retired Auditor General Daniel Yao Domelevo despite the bad blood that existed between himself and the seating government has praised Akufo-Addo.

According to him, in 2016 when he was hesitant to take up the role he filled up until his retirement, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo called him on phone to encourage him to accept the appointment.

He made this known while speaking at a thanksgiving service held at the Christ the King Catholic Church at Cantonments on Wednesday, March 10, 2021.

On December 23, 2016, Mahama appointed him Domelevo to replace Richard Quartei Quartey, who had retired from public service and was quite hesitant because he knew his employer had lost the election.

There was a controversy surrounding his appointment by the NDC's Mahama because he was not going to serve under the NDC and rather the new NPP government.

“So, Nana Akufo-Addo encouraged me that ‘Go and take the job’,” he told friends and family at the service," he said.

He, therefore, thanked the president for the opportunity to serve under him and to former president Mahama for appointing him

The relationship between the governing NPP and Domelevo started since his enquiry into a lot of government businesses which made his relationship with the Audit Service Board sore.

Domelevo made headlines when he was asked to go on a compulsory days off from work for 123 days which was latter extended by additional 44 days making it 167 days in total.

He returned to his office on March 3, 2021, per the directive he was given by the president.

Immediately after resuming on Wednesday, March 3, he was served with a letter to proceed on retirement by the government.

His deputy, Johnson Akuamoa-Asiedu was tasked to continue to act as Auditor General until the a substantive Auditor General was appointed.

In other news, Alban Bagbin on Wednesday expressed disgust with the conduct of some lawmakers during President Nana Akufo-Addo’s State of the Nation Address (SONA).

The lawmakers noisily interrupted the proceedings on Tuesday with boos and jeer.

Addressing the conduct of the legislators during the debate of the president’s address, Bagbin reminded the MPs that the lawmaking chamber is not musical theatre.
