Another man is in police grips for allegedly physically abusing his own wife till the point of death.
The 38-year-old Gali Galo was picked up by the Denu police for allegedly beating his wife, Beatrice Logosu, 34, to death and secretly depositing her body at the morgue.
Gali was apprehended after he secretly deposited his wife's body for preservation at the mortuary of the Hosanna Clinic in Agbozume.
Confirming the incident, the Volta Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant (Sgt) Prince Dogbatse said the attention of the Denu Police station was drawn to the crime after Gali's neighbours lodged a complaint against him.
Sergeant Dogbatse said the couple had an altercation around midday on Saturday, March 27, 2021, after Gali accused his wife of infidelity.
In an attempt to intervene and plead for mercy for Beatrice, Gali threatened to kill or harm anyone who got involved with their issue.
According to them, Gali kept assaulting his wife deep into the night and they woke up the next morning only to hear that the victim had died.
To make sure what the neighbours were saying was actually true, the Denu Police followed up to the Hosanna Clinic morgue to inspect the body that was allegedly secretly deposited for embalmment.
Inspection revealed that there were bruises and contusions on the body, with blood oozing from a broken jaw.
"The victim's neck appeared broken, suggesting a possible case of strangulation,” the police report stated.
The suspect and mortuary attendant, William Gbeke, 36, were consequently arrested.
Sergeant Dogbatse explained that Gbeke was arrested based on his unethical and unprofessional conduct.
"Gbeke had a duty to inform the police about the bruises, contusion and blood that was oozing from the broken jaw of the deceased, but was compromised into getting the body embalmed," he said
Both men remain in custody while investigations continue into the incident which is the latest in a series of domestic violence recorded in the region.
