Timber truck crashes two mourners to death in Eastern Region

News reaching YEN.com.gh indicates that two mourners were crushed to death by a MAN Diesel truck loaded with timber.
The incident occurred at Akyem Nkwateng in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region on Wednesday.
The deceased, 36-year-old Yaw Agyemang and 37-year-old, Kwaku Dominic, met their untimely deaths when they joined a group of mourners to convey a corpse from Akyem Mamanso community mortuary to Akyem Akorkuaso for burial, Starr News reported.
The truck with registration number GW7424 reportedly emerged from the opposite direction to the entourage, forcing the 36-year-old Agyemang who was riding a motorbike to lose control and violently hit the rear tyre of the truck, dragging Dominic along.
They died instantly and their mortal remains had been deposited at the New Abirem Government Hospital morgue.
Confirming the disturbing development, Sergeant Francis Gomado, Acting Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, said the truck driver had been arrested to assist investigations.
In other news, armed men shot and killed a man believed to be in his early 40s in a daylight robbery in Kasoa Opeikuma in the Central Region.
Sources close to the development told YEN.com.gh the deceased was returning for a bank holding a brown bag suspected to be containing an undisclosed amount of cash.
Four guys on a motorbike with one wielding a gun approached the deceased as he waits to board a taxi.
After a minute of silent conversation, the guy wielding the gun suddenly shot the deceased and made away with the brown bag.
The guys reportedly sped after the grisly encounter.
The police are yet to make any arrest, sources close to the development told YEN.com.gh.
Meanwhile, four military officers and five civilians were arrested in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
According to a report filed by Citi News, the nine, all armed with guns, robbed the Executive Quarry site in Gomoa Ojobi and bolted with GHS10,000.
They also made away with one IBM laptop computer, one HP laptop, two system units, one money counting machine, a printer, and two security cameras all valued at GHS20,000.
Speaking to the media, the Central Regional Police PRO, DSP Irene Oppong said the director of the company lodged the complaint after the incident occurred around 11:30 am on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.
