Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has proposed that Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyeremanten, be made the governing New Patriotic Party’s running mate for the 2024 general elections.
According to the Suame Member of Parliament, the trade and industry minister is the perfect running mate choice for a non-Akan flagbearer for the 2024 elections.
Kyei Mensah who has been advocating for a non-Akan flagbearer believes that some sort of agreement can be reached for that partnership to happen.
Speaking in an interview monitored by YEN.com.gh on Okay FM, he said: “Someone mentioned Alan, and I said that if we all agree to select a non-Akan, we can make Alan the running mate of that person so unity will prevail in the party.
In an earlier YEN.com.gh report, Kyei Mensah who is also the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs stated that the time has come for the governing party to wean itself from the ‘Akan party’ tag.
Meanwhile, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Accra, Rt. Rev. Dr. Daniel S.M Torto, declared that “no man can dim the light” of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The vice president will be battling the likes of Trade and Industry Minister, Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanten and the Agriculture Minister for the chance to lead the NPP into the 2024 elections.
A recent survey by the European Public Policy Institute (EPPI) disclosed that Dr. Bawumia has an “upper hand” over the trade and industry minister as the successor to President Akufo-Addo as the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.
Addressing congregants at the Easter Sunday Service of the Anglican Diocese of Accra, Rt. Rev. Torto urged the vice president to remain resolute and work for God and man because he is on a worthy cause.
“There is light ahead of you and only God can put that light off. No man and I mean no man can dim your light…,” the man of God told the vice president when he joined members of the church for the Easter Sunday worship.
