Akuapem Poloo's Lawyer Shares Good News Ahead Of Sentencing By Court

Akuapem Poloo's lawyer, Andy Vortia, is optimistic that his client will not go to jail despite being convicted in her court case.
Poloo, known in private life as Rosemond Brown, was convicted after pleading guilty to charges brought against her following her viral nude photo with her son in June 2020.
Poloo was made to go in custody to undergo a pregnancy test while awaiting judge Christiana Cann's sentencing on Friday, April 16.

Ahead of the sentencing, the actress' lawyer has explained that her charges are misdemeanours which also have sentences ranging from fines, bonding, or two-year jail term.
Speaking in an interview with Peace FM which was monitored by YEN.com.gh on Thursday, April 15, 2021, Lawyer Vortia stated the first charge, publication of obscene material, has only a fine as punishment.
The second charge, engaging in domestic violence, is "either a fine of not more than 500 penalty units (GHC1,000), bonding, cautioning, or a jail term of two years."
For the third charge, Poloo could be sentenced to a fine or a jail term, the lawyer stated.
The lawyer went further to state that he will be using mitigating factors like Poloo's admission of guilt without wasting the court's time and the fact that she is a single mother and the only breadwinner of the child in question to plead for a lenient sentence.

"I believe if I put all these mitigating factors in front of the judge, we will be left off the hook," he said.
Explaining the reasons why Poloo had been asked to do a pregnancy test, the lawyer said it was the judge's directive in accordance with the law regarding sentencing for non-menopausal women.
He thus denied suggestions that Poloo was going to be jailed because of that directive.
Lawyer Vortia also cautioned Ghanaian celebrities and the general public to be measured in their calls for Poloo to be released.
For him, many of the messages in the social media campaign to #FreeAKuapemPoloo were harsh and could infuriate the judge, and harm their case.
He also pointed out that there was no need to start a campaign to free Poloo because she has not been jailed in the first place.
Earlier, Lawyer Vortia explained the circumstances which led to Poloo pleading guilty.
According to him, the evidence against the actress was overwhelming and it was only wise to plead so and get a lenient judgement.
Meanwhile, comedian DKB visited Akuapem Poloo in the police cells.
In a video after the visit, DKB has described the actress' current condition. The comedian also pleaded with the judge in the case to be merciful.
